Helpful Items for Seniors

Floral Comforter Set Helpful Items for Seniors

Much has been written about “aging in place” vs. moving to an assisted living or senior-centric facility. While the decision is a personal one there are many conveniences designed to help one age comfortably and maintain a standard of dignity and privacy as long as possible. The bathroom is in many ways a “ground zero” for making the determination as to whether or not one can live alone in any environment.

Invalids, seniors and folks with a temporary injury or permanent limitation can all benefit from some bathroom enhancements which blend into any home décor and offer comfort and assistance. Items such as a handheld shower head, a shower chair or bench, anti-skid treads in the bath or shower, anti-slip bath mats, lighted toilet seats and extra grab bars all contribute to bathroom safety. To get an idea of the sorts of bathroom hardware and accessories available it’s a good idea to browse online at the major bed and bath store websites. You may have thought of them only when seeking toile bedding, a mattress encasement or some other hard to find item but the reality is they generally stock a good array of bathroom safety hardware.

A handheld shower head makes it easy for you to wash all or selected body parts while seated, kneeling or standing. It’s easy to reach those hard to reach places, particularly for those with limited mobility, plus you can use it to wash hair or direct a warm spray to an aching body part. The interesting thing about most items designed for seniors is that they are beneficial to family members of all ages; wash pets and water plants with a handheld shower head and you will quickly understand why they are such a great addition to any home.

P and O Cruises

If you are looking for the experience of a lifetime P and O cruises have something to offer you. A cruise is a fantastic holiday and P & O have been offering these holidays to the public far longer than other cruise companies.

A Brief History of P and O Cruises

P&O first started taking passengers in 1822. They cruised between the UK and the Iberian Peninsula. To bolster their business they also delivered mail.

In 1844 they re-launched their passenger services sailing out of Southampton to Gibraltar, Malta and Athens. By the 1880s all of their passengers were travelling on luxury ships and as far afield as Alexandria and Constantinople. They built the first ship to use electric lights in 1889.

By 1910 P & O had a huge fleet of 197 ships following mergers with other companies. They lost 17 in WWI, but their subsidiary companies lost 68 in total considerably reducing their fleet.

During the 1920s P&O cruises had 20 luxury passenger liners built. By then they literally spanned the globe. Passengers being able to travel by air made things difficult for P&0 in the 1940s and 50s, but by the 1960s people began to rediscover the joy of luxury cruising.
